26 Rotarier auf dem Weg ins Reich zwischen Okzident und Orient – Istanbul, die einzige Metropole, die auf zwei Kontinenten liegt, Europa und Asien.

Nach verspäteter Landung wurden wir am Flughafen von unseren Reiseführer, Herrn Dr. Seha Aksü und Herrn Hulusi Gencay vom RC Sisli begrüßt. Auf der Fahrt zum Hotel bekamen wir die ersten Eindrücke: Istanbul, eine saubere Stadt mit vielen Blumen (Tulpen, die ursprünglich aus Istanbul stammen) und Verkehrsstaus, wohin man schaute. - Eine pulsierende Stadt, die nie wirklich zur Ruhe kommt.

Eingestimmt wurden wir am ersten Abend durch die Einladung des RC Sisli, der uns sehr herzlich empfangen hat.
Die nächsten Tage begleitete Herr Dr. Aksü uns durch seine Stadt und brachte sie uns auf eine sehr eindrucksvolle Weise vom Land als auch vom Wasser aus her näher. Sowohl bei Sonne als auch bei Regen ist Istanbul eine Reise wert!

Nach viel Geschichte und Kultur und einem Abstecher in den großen Basar landeten wir am Sonntag , müde aber glücklich wieder in Hamburg.

26 Rotarians on their way to the Empire between occident and orient – Istanbul, the only metropolis on two continents, Europe and Asia.

After a delayed landing our guide, Dr. Seha Aksü, and Hulusi Gencay from the RC Sisli, warmly welcomed us at the Atatürk airport. During our ride to the hotel we got the first impressions: Istanbul, a very clean city with thousands of flowers (tulips, originating from Istanbul!), and traffic jams all over the place. A vivid, vibrating city that never sleeps.

The first night we experienced the overwhelming Turkish hospitality, the RC Sisli organised a common meeting during which we all communicated a lot.
The next days Dr. Aksü took us to his city and familiarised us in an impressing manner – by bus, on feet, and by boat. No matter whether under the sun or under the umbrella Istanbul is worth a trip.

After a long weekend full of history, culture, and commerce (in the Covered Bazaar) we landed in Hamburg tired and satisfied on Sunday.
